Buyers who want an absolutely massive display should consider TCL's 98-inch QM8 QLED, which is $2,000 off its full retail price. And those who want a more compact set should check out this $200 discount on the Samsung QN90D, one of our picks for the best 50-inch TVs.

The best Amazon Prime Day TV deals: 55 inches and under

Shoppers on the hunt for a smaller display can still find great Prime Day TV deals on sets in the 55-, 50-, 43-, and 40-inch range. Among several top discounts, there's a 24% deal on the TCL 55-inch S5 that matches the lowest price we've seen for this model.

The best Amazon Prime Day TV deals: 65-inch sets

Many TV brands use 65 inches as the flagship size in their lineups, so it's no surprise that there are a lot of excellent discounts to go around. In particular, we're seeing the lowest prices yet on two impressive OLED models: the Samsung S90D for 36% off and the LG G3 for 34% off. Both are excellent high-end models.

The best Amazon Prime Day TV deals: 75 inches and up

Extra-large TVs are growing increasingly popular, and several 75-, 77-, and 83-inch options are on sale for Prime Day. But if those aren't big enough, we recommend checking out TCL's huge 98-inch QM8 QLED, which is back down to the lowest price we've seen it go for at 33% off.

FAQs

What are the most reliable TV brands?

Our TV experts have tested many displays across every major brand to choose the best models for various budgets and uses. If you want a premium TV, we recommend considering high-end OLED and QLED models from companies like LG, Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic.

Buyers on a budget should consider midrange QLED TVs from brands like Hisense, TCL, Roku, and Vizio. These TVs make some sacrifices in build quality and features to keep their costs low, but they offer better overall value than most midrange options from pricier companies. If all you need is a basic smart TV with entry-level image quality, a cheap LED display from Amazon, Toshiba, or Insignia should suffice for casual viewing needs.

What's the difference between an LED, QLED, and OLED TV?

Most new TVs fall into one of three display types: OLED, QLED, and LED.

LED TVs are the most affordable of the bunch. They're built with LCD (liquid crystal display) panels and use LEDs (light-emitting diodes) in their backlights. Standard LED displays are best for buyers who don't care about advanced picture quality. In particular, LED displays have subpar black levels, which can make dark scenes look flat and faded, especially if you watch TV with the lights off.

QLED TVs are best described as an upgraded version of an LED TV. Their underlying panel technology is the same as an LED TV, but they add a film of quantum dots to their panels. This is where the "Q" in QLED comes from. When implemented into a screen, quantum dots enable a brighter and wider range of colors. Some QLED models also use a technology called local dimming. This feature allows a display to darken or brighten specific areas across its screen to deliver higher contrast control and improved black levels.

OLED TVs use a completely differenf screen tech than LED or QLED displays, and they have some big advantages. OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode, and these TVs don't use backlights at all. Instead, an OLED can brighten and dim on a pixel-level basis, which creates an infinite contrast ratio with perfect black levels that disappear into a dark room. This effect gives OLEDs a nice jump in overall picture performance. OLED TVs also have wide viewing angles, so the picture doesn't distort if you sit to the side of the screen.

Unfortunately, even high-end OLEDs can't get quite as bright as the most advanced QLED TVs. Top OLED models also cost more than most QLEDs, especially in larger screen sizes. For more details, check out our QLED vs. OLED comparison.
