England have a list of four football managers they’d like to appoint after learning that Lee Carsley has snubbed the role on a full-time basis.

Interim Three Lions boss Carsley does not wish to be the new permanent England manager, according to The Telegraph, meaning the FA must now look elsewhere.

It is reported that Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who is out of contact at the end of the season, remains England’s ‘dream choice’ to replace Gareth Southgate.

The three other men on England’s wishlist include former Chelsea head coaches Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter as well as Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe.

It was claimed on Friday that Tuchel is in ‘advanced negotiations’ to become England’s new manager.

The German, who won the Champions League during his stint at Chelsea, has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season.

Potter is also being considered, alongside fellow Englishman Howe, although it is thought that the former AFC Bournemouth boss is not interested in the job.

News of interim England boss Carsley dropping out of the race comes after England’s disastrous Nations League defeat to Greece on Thursday.

Following that match, Carsley strongly hinted that he did not want to manage the first team on a full-time basis.

Asked to explain what he meant by saying ‘hopefully I’ll be going back to the U21s’, Carsley said: ‘Hopefully is a word and a phrase I use quite a bit. There’s obviously no guarantees in life, including tomorrow.

‘It’s a job, the U21s, that I’m really proud of and massively invested in. But I know there’s no guarantees.

‘But the plan is to give this job for three camps the best I can do along with the rest of the staff and hopefully we can be in a good position.’

Members of the England set-up are now ‘convinced’ that Carsley has no desire to become Southgate’s permanent successor.
