Former Time Lord Matt Smith is sporting a shocking new look on the set of his latest film – sharing a scene with Elvis Presley himself, Austin Butler.

The actor, 41, is more commonly known for his tweed jacket-wearing Doctor Who, or as cardigan-clad Prince Phillip in The Crown.

However, in filming his new movie, Caught Stealing, the actor has unveiled an all-new look – rocking a flaming mohawk, black-and-red striped jumper and tartan trousers.

His eclectic outfit makes co-star Austin Butler, 33, look positively normal for a change, relaxing on set in trainers, jeans and a turquoise shirt.

Director Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller follows the Elvis star as former baseball player Hank Thompson, who finds himself entangled in the criminal underworld of 1990s New York.

Hank Thompson – played by Austin Butler – a former baseball player who gets tangled up in the criminal underworld of New York City in the 1990s.

In addition to capturing Matt and Austin shooting the breeze on set, new pictures have also captured some of the action, with Matt’s character apparently fleeing as Hank tumbles out of a car.

Other images show the House of the Dragon star clad in a long grey trenchcoat, covered with scrawled-on swear words and anarchic symbols.

Another image shows Matt and Austin side-by-side in a car together, both looking bruised and bloody – and with Matt’s character apparently suffering from a massive bulging bump to the noggin.

The star-studded cast also includes Liev Schreiber, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Will Brill, Bad Bunny, Griffin Dunne, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

The actor cut a very different figure to the more composed characters he’s usually known for playing (with the possible exception of, uh, Charles Manson in 2018’s Charlie Says).

Matt most recently starred in the second season of Game of Thrones spin off series House of the Dragon.

Meanwhile, his portrayal a young Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown earned him an Emmy nomination in 2018.

Matt first debuted a version of his mohawk in September, leaving fans distraught and declaring it ‘horrendous’ after he was snapped in public.

In October, pictures from the film’s set emerged for the first time, with Matt partnering his tartan trousers with an ostentatiously studded black leather jacket.

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief then, meaning that the star’s controversial new hairstyle will surely be gone once filming has wrapped.
