Admissions Policy

This policy outlines the admission process and related guidelines for the Pioneer School. By applying or enrolling, you agree to the terms detailed below. If you do not agree, please contact us before proceeding.

Starting at Pioneer School: Admission is open to all students equally regardless of race, religion, economic status, and gender. Special needs are considered subject to availability of specialist teaching staff.

Prospective students and their families are welcome to visit anytime throughout the academic year. The visit will feature a meeting with teachers and a walk through the classrooms, recreational spaces, and extracurricular activities.

Primary Six and Senior Three are candidate years. New students are not accepted into candidate years once the first term is in process.

Children below four years old will not be admitted into nursery school.

Class Size and Waiting List: Maximum class size is 32 students. If the school year group is already fully subscribed, the student will be placed on a waiting list.

If and when a place opens up, the student must begin the application process within one week or else the opportunity will transfer to the next name on the waiting list.

Application Process: Candidates wishing to proceed with application fill in the Student Application Form and submit it along with their prior school reports and the one-time, non-refundable registration fee.

Once the registration has been accepted, the student must sit a Placement Assessment Test to determine the most appropriate year group. Parents must outfit the student in the Pioneer School Uniform before starting school.

Subsequent to the assessment, the student may start at Pioneer School on any school day as agreed between the staff and parents.

Admission Criteria: Students are accepted through the academic year and are not subject to entry examinations.

However, there are some standardized assessment tests for placement purposes to assist in their learning journey. Your child's existing school may be contacted for a verbal reference.

Retention: If a student has attended less than 85% of the academic year and is scoring in the ‘low’ range, retention will be mandatory.

Students who have missed final examination assessment in the third term will be required to take it at a special sitting before being placed in a class the following academic year.

If a student does not attend an entire term, they will be taken off the class list. A returning student is expected to re-register with the relevant fee if or when they choose to return.

Mobile Phone Policy: Mobile phones are not allowed. If a student is in possession of a phone, he/she will be sent home with a warning.

If a student is found hiding a phone after receiving a warning, he/she will be expelled without further notice. Teachers will assist with communication between students and parents.

Paying Fees: All fees are paid at the beginning of each term or at the time of admission. Fees must be paid in Rwandan Francs.

Each term's fees are due by the end of the first week of the school term. Late payments are subject to a surcharge of 5%.

Students whose fees remain unpaid after 30 days of the term start date will be excluded from the school, unless otherwise agreed in writing with the school administrator.
