Red Dead Redemption 1 and Undead Nightmare out on PC this month --[Reported by Umva mag]

The rumours were true, as Rockstar Games unveils a new trailer and tech specs for a PC version of 2010’s Western classic Red Dead Redemption.

Despite being universally acclaimed, Red Dead Redemption (and its expansion Undead Nightmare) was never released on PC. That’s about to change, as it’s finally been announced, 14 years after it first launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

This comes a year after Rockstar’s best-selling Western, along with DLC Undead Nightmare, was released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It also means that the datamine from earlier this year, which suggested a PC port was also in the works, was true.

Rockstar has now confirmed that Red Dead Redemption will be released for PC on October 29, and that it comes with a host of technical improvements.

‘In collaboration with Double Eleven, this new version brings John Marston’s beloved journey to PC in stunning, new detail,’ said Rockstar.

The PC version will be sold in the Rockstar Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, and information about how to pre-purchase the bundle will come later this week.

The new version includes enhancements such as native 4K resolution (up to 144Hz), upscaling technology support for Nvidia DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0, monitor support for both ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) monitors, and adjustable draw distances, shadow quality settings, ‘and more’.

Red Dead Redemption will be sold together with its horror-themed (which is probably why they went with this release date) expansion Undead Nightmare.

Although there is no price yet, the same bundle was sold for £39.99 when it launched on PlayStation 4 and Switch last year. It should be a little less than that on PC though, since there are no licensing fees to publish a game on PC.

There have also been rumours that Rockstar is working to bring Red Dead Redemption 2 to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 as well, thanks to a leaked trailer.

The trailer was allegedly posted by an ex-employee, who said it was planned to come out in March 2025, but has probably now been abandoned.

It’s not uncommon for Rockstar to release their games on console first, and port them to PC later, which it did with GTA 5 as well.

The same goes for GTA 6, which is launching on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 at some point in autumn 2025, with a PC launch to come later.
