Veteran TV actor Ed Wheeler who starred in Law & Order dies aged 88 --[Reported by Umva mag]

Ed Wheeler, who appeared in various TV shows and films throughout his career including Law & Order, Blue Bloods and Mickey Blue Eyes, has died aged 88.

Born in Brooklyn in 1936, Wheeler’s career in the entertainment industry began when he appeared in TV commercials for brands including Sudafed and Luvs diapers.

He then began his acting career in TV shows in 1978, first appearing in two episodes of the comedy-drama series Watch Your Mouth.

Wheeler’s first film role came in 1987 when he starred in Broadcast News, alongside William Hurt, Albert Brooks and Holly Hunter.

The news of the actor’s death was confirmed by his wife Messeret Stroman Wheeler, who told Deadline that he died on August 21 at hospital in New Jersey after suffering from respiratory failure due to complications with pneumonia.

Mrs Wheeler also shared a post about her late husband on Instagram, saying that the announcement came ‘with a heavy heart’.

‘In loving memory of my beloved husband, Ed Wheeler. You brought light, laughter and love into every corner of my life and the lives of all who knew you,’ she wrote.

‘Your talent, dedication and passion were unmatched—whether on stage, in front of the camera or behind the scenes. From national commercials to the esteemed Negro Ensemble Company, your presence was felt and cherished.’

Mrs Wheeler continued: ‘My Honey Ed, you were more than just a public figure; you were a guiding light, a supportive partner and my heart. We built a life and created art together, and your legacy will continue to inspire. I will forever miss your voice, your wisdom and your generosity.

‘To all who knew Ed, thank you for your love and support during this time. Let’s remember him for the joy he brought into our lives and the profound impact he had on the world.

‘Rest in peace, My Honey. You will always be in my heart.’
