The Wheel is back and Michael McIntyre’s hit game show has undergone some big changes for the new series.

The hit BBC programme sees members of the public answering quiz questions split into specific categories in order to win cash prizes, and they have a range of celebrity experts to help out.

Of course, it’s not quite so simple, with the titular wheel spinning and the contestants left hoping it will land on the famous face to match the question.

The goal is to be in the hot seat by the end, but bosses have shaken things up for the ongoing fifth series.

Previously, contestants still had the chance of moving back up to play again even if they got their answers wrong in the final stage, but this time round they will be eliminated from the show for good.

During Saturday’s first episode of the new run, host Michael told contestant Cath: ‘It’s a huge moment.

‘It’s to cash out with the most amount possible, £86,000, if you get this question correct. Otherwise, you’ll go back down and in this series, you only get one chance to win.’

Unfortunately for Cath, This Morning chef Clodagh McKenna – the last celeb on the board – wasn’t able to help her in the tennis category, and she lost.

Fans loved the new change though, suggesting it’s much fairer on everyone.

‘#TheWheel very pleased they’ve changed the rules so that in the end phase each contestant only gets one go ????,’ wrote @OliReading on X.

Viewer @me_and_flora added: ‘Very glad to see they’ve changed the rules on #TheWheel so that it’s one shot per contestant at the end. That’s the way I’ve always thought it should be. Totally fair to me ????’

‘Glad they changed the rules so they only get one shot in the cash out round ???????? #TheWheel,’ said @alig1972, while @Greg_Phillips tweeted: ‘Yay, they’ve changed the end so they only get one chance to win… about time.’

It’s not the only change for this series, with bosses introducing a Double Chair to allow the likes of Danny and Dani Dyer, Torvill and Dean, and Chris and Rosie Ramsey to take part as a team of experts.

‘For people who think contestants may benefit from having an extra person on the Wheel, this has not thus far proven to be the case due to instant bickering between the pairings,’ Michael recently joked.

And there is also the introduction of The Wheel Hall of Fame, which allows as celeb who’s topped the leaderboard three times to ‘forever be lit in silver and worth double money’, with Dermot O’Leary getting that honour.

Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel continues each Saturday on BBC One and iPlayer.
