Ouch! Olivia Rodrigo had fans gasping in fright during a live show on Sunday night after tripping and falling while performing to a sell-out crowd.

The Good 4 U hitmaker, 21, who initially got her big break as part of the Disney Plus High School Musical TV series, was on stage in Australia when the incident happened.

She might have topped the charts three times in the UK, but that feat sadly hasn’t given her the ability to see in the dark – as her biggest fans found out in Melbourne on Sunday.

During a segment that saw Olivia address the crowd, footage taken from inside the Rod Laver Arena by X user baxterhumeniuk showed her running across the stage from side to side with only a spotlight to guide her.

But what she didn’t notice in the almost pitch-black venue was a gaping hole in the floor next to her, which she promptly fell into while addressing concertgoers in the New South Wales city.

The moment she unexpectedly fell beneath the floorboards, the crowd gasped in horror as thousands of them wondered in a panic whether Olivia would be alright.

Thankfully, the Vampire singer – who managed to grab onto a ledge to stop herself from falling further – got back to her feet laughing, shouting and giggling into the microphone that she was alright after all.

She exclaimed: ‘Oh my god! That was fun! I’m okay! Woah! Sometimes there’s just a hole in the stage, but that’s alright… Okay, where was I? How are you doing tonight, Melbourne?!’

Acting like a true professional, the Drivers License singer-songwriter carried on with the rest of the gig like nothing had happened, delighting the 14,000-strong crowd.

On X, @FromtheVault said: ‘She’s definitely fine, lol, but I don’t know why there’s just an open hole – that could’ve been way worse.’

The fan who shot the video was then delighted to find out that Olivia’s TikTok account, which has 22.4 million followers, had reposted it the following morning.

Responding to the video, the Deja Vu singer commented, ‘I am ok hahaha,’ adding a love heart to her comment which was subsequently liked over 7,000 times.

The repost has been viewed over 800,000 times (at the time of writing) in the two hours that have passed since it was uploaded.

Other fans also noted that the incident mirrored the lyrics of Olivia’s song Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl, which features the following line: ‘I broke a glass, I tripped and fell, I told secrets I shouldn’t tell.’

It’s not the first time an artist has fallen foul of their stage this year, with Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready taking a tumble back in May 2024.

The 58-year-old and his bandmates kicked off their 2024 world tour in Vancouver, Canada, and two-thirds of the way through lead guitarist Mike ended up on the floor.

However, like a true professional, Mike hardly missed a note and carried on playing with his guitar in the air, as a security guard rushed over to help him up.
