Warning: spoilers ahead for The Penguin episode 4.

Fans of Cristin Milioti have known for years just how incredibly talented an actress she is.

However, many feel that her superb turn as Sofia Falcone in The Penguin might be her best performance yet, especially after episode 4.

The TV series, starring Colin Farrell as the lead character Oz Cobb, is a spin-off from the 2022 film The Batman, which introduced Robert Pattinson as the latest actor to portray the caped crusader.

Following the events of the movie, there’s a power struggle in Gotham’s criminal underworld, with the Penguin using every tool in his arsenal to become the top dog.

But, he has the Falcone family to contend with – including Sofia, the daughter of the late Carmine Falcone, who was murdered by the Riddler at the end of The Batman.

In the fourth episode of The Penguin, viewers learn what happened to her when she was sent to Arkham Asylum by her father, in a bid to prevent her from revealing to the press that he’s a notorious serial killer called ‘The Hangman’.

Thanks to Oz’s input, Sofia is instead framed for the murders that Carmine committed against several women, and is locked up in the asylum against her will.

While she’s originally only supposed to be in the asylum for six months, she ends up being confined in the establishment for a decade, during which she’s beaten up and subjected to mental and physical torture.

Finally, when Sofia is let out of Arkham, she gets her revenge, establishing herself as one of the most fearsome forces in Gotham…murdering almost her entire family in the process.

Not only was it fascinating to learn how Sofia transformed to become the lethal killer that she was previously wrongly assumed to be, but Cristin, 39, was simply entrancing to watch on screen.

Several fans of the How I Met Your Mother star claimed that she has to be a shoo-in during awards season, while others said that she gave a career-best performance.

‘Somebody please make sure Cristin Milioti gets all the nominations for The Penguin when that time does come. Career best level work here, especially in tonight’s episode. Truly phenomenal in every scene,’ a viewer called @_ShauryaChawla wrote on X.

One fan called @edgorteg described her performance in the latest episode as ‘bone-chilling’, while @ZackaryWeiss said: ‘Cristin Milioti just performed 59min of some of the best acting you’ll ever see in your life in #ThePenguin ep4.

They continued: ‘And that’s not hyperbole. One of both the most disturbing and perfect pieces of film and television I’ve ever seen. Just… at a loss. What did I just watch. Bravo.’

X user @heyitsjennalynn said that they’re ‘so glad everyone seems to agree that we need to give Cristin Milioti every award imaginable’.

@nasserreviews remarked that Sofia ‘might be the best thought to come out of Reeves’ Batman series’, referring to The Batman director Matt Reeves, who also executive produced The Penguin.

Meanwhile @lucas06097716 stated that in their opinion, The Penguin is ‘gearing up to be the best comic book series known to man’, adding that Cristin can ‘do no wrong in my eyes’.

@Jane_Blatz also summarised: ‘After yet another incredible episode, I genuinely think that #ThePenguin is the best show on television right now. Cristin Milioti is a force to be reckoned with ????.’

In addition to The Penguin and How I Met Your Mother, some of Cristin’s best-known performances include starring in The Wolf of Wall STreet, Palm Springs and Fargo.

The Penguin is available to watch on Sky and NOW, with new episodes released on Mondays.
