A wanted man who tried to avoid arrest won’t be winning any hide and seek competitions with his hiding spot.

Police officers turned up to a home in Potton, Bedfordshire with a warrant to arrest the man, who hasn’t been named – but all they found in the home was a dog.

That is, until they carried out a more thorough search and found the man hidden in a sofa.

The suspect had climbed into the base of the sofa and was wearing nothing but his underwear.

Body worn footage of the search caught one officer saying ‘Oh look, he’s hiding in the sofa, out you come’ before he was arrested.

Bedfordshire Police have declined to give any more details about the arrest, citing operational reasons.

A spokesperson said: ‘We’ve seen some things in our time, but we must say this is a first.

‘This morning while executing a warrant in Potton, we thought there was nothing more to be found in the property bar a friendly dog.

‘Upon a closer search of the property, officers found the suspect tucked into the base of his sofa.

‘We thought the man would be more comfortable tucked into bed, so he’ll be spending the next few hours in a custody cell – little less of a squeeze.’

This isn’t the first time a suspect has hidden from police in an unusual but ultimately unsuccessful way.

This teenage car thief tried to hide inside a giant teddy, while a burglar pretended to be a solar panel, and another wannabe burglar tried to hide inside a beehive.
