Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku has provided an update on his future after he was linked with a transfer back to his former club Paris-Saint Germain.

Nkunku only arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2023 after the Blues paid RB Leipzig £52m – but it is already rumoured that he could be heading for the exit.

PSG, the club where Nkunku started his career and went on to play 78 games, are reported to be interested in a move for the 26-year-old France international.

Nkunku has now been quizzed about PSG’s interest, and while he described them as a ‘big club’, he insisted that no official approach has yet been made.

‘PSG remains a big club, but there has not been one approach,’ Nkunku told French outlet Telefoot.

Nkunku has impressively conjured up seven goals across 11 games in all competitions for Chelsea so far this season.

He is under contract until June 30, 2029 and has made a total of 25 appearances for the west Londoners to date.

Nkunku has been forced to compete with Nicolas Jackson for game time this term with head coach Enzo Maresca admitting he can’t fit them both into the XI.

‘The problem is the defensive balance,’ Maresca said when asked about the chances of Nkunku and Jackson starting in the same line-up.

‘We can think to play with Nicolas, Christo, Joao, Cole Palmer, Noni [Madueke] – fantastic! But then who is defending? Me and you?

‘I would like to put all of them in because I really like football and I really like to keep the ball but the problem is when you lose the ball and then you have to defend. Not all of them can defend at the same level.’

Chelsea are next in action on Sunday as they face Liverpool in a showdown at Anfield.

The Blues currently sit fourth in the Premier League table after their opening seven fixtures of the 2024-25 season.
