FIRST Dates star Fred Sirieix has responded to rumours that he and Gino D’Acampo have ‘ditched’ co-star Gordon Ramsay in their brand new show. But the popular ITV programme was put on hold indefinitely last year when we revealed Italian chef Gino had sensationally quit amid rumours of a rift behind the scenes. Now, Fred, 52, and Gino, 48, have teamed up for a new telly gig named Gino and Fred’s Emission Impossible, which will see the dynamic duo “attempt to go green” over the course of two weeks, but fans noticed Gordon wasn’t involved. Speaking out on the ‘rift’ rumours, Fred told The Sun: “Gordon is extremely busy. I don’t know if you’ve seen his Instagram and social media but he’s opening restaurant after restaurant after restaurant. “He also has two very young children. There’s Oscar who is five-years-old, and Jesse who is ten months. So he really has his hands full, you know?” Fred continued: “In terms of travelling, he’s already got so many shows in America. “He just couldn’t make the time. And we love travelling and we said to him ‘Well, look, we’re going and when you want to join us, join us, and we’ll go around and we’ll have some fun.’” Fred confirmed that the trio are very much still friends and that there is no rift going on behind the scenes. Discussing the premise behind his new show with Gino, Fred shared: “You know, travelling around two countries, being as green and sustainable as possible is really tough. “And basically it’s me and Gino going around Australia and Croatia, travelling as green and sustainably as possible to look at the impact of climate change around two different countries – one in Australia and the mountains there. And Croatia, of course, with its incredible coastline. “And, listen, we’re no David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg on tour, but it’s about looking at the issues. And they are very serious issues.” Aside from his TV work, Fred recently put his matchmaking skills in to practice once again – but this time, with cats. For Global Adoption Weekend (11th – 13th October) Fred paired cats from Battersea with their forever families. Battersea is currently experiencing the highest number of cats needing its help in the last five years, so Fred and a team of Battersea experts hosted a special matchmaking event which saw cats paired with families looking for a feline friend. A passionate Fred said of the event: “You know, if you have a pet, they need love, they need care, they need attention. They need presence – a human presence. They’ve got feelings and they feel they feel everything that we feel. And this campaign really appealed to me because it’s smart, and it’s about compatibility. “The idea is to match a pet to its owner so that you work out whether the pet that you are getting works for you, you know, if you are compatible, and if you align. “And the reason why it appealed to me is because I’ve been matchmaking people now for many years. People are trying to find love on first date, and it is actually the same thing. Because it’s not about the breed or the look of the animal or the colour or the height or the size or whatever. It’s all about the compatibility. “I saw a little boy come in with his family and they took home two cats, and it really was a heartwarming experience.” To get involved in Mars’ Global Adoption Weekend, head to the Battersea website to find your perfect match.
