Fury as civil servant in charge of military housing bags £17k bonus despite 20,000 complaints about homes --[Reported by Umva mag]

A CIVIL servant in charge of military housing got a £17,000 bonus despite more than 20,000 complaints by troops.

Mike Green was entitled to the performance pay last year on top of his £160,000 salary.

But the boss of the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation got it despite a survey finding thousands of soldiers and their families live in homes with broken boilers, leaky roofs or mould.

Freedom of Information figures obtained by The Sun on Sunday show that since 2022, 76,000 civilian staff received around £115million in bonuses.

Andy Start, CEO of the MoD’s Defence Equipment and Supply, got a bonus of up to £175,000 on top of his £280,000 salary.

At the same time, more than 20,000 military personnel complained of the quality of their housing.

One soldier’s wife said: “We’ve been dealing with mould and damp for nearly seven years.

“There are probably thousands of military families having to live in substandard conditions.”

Ex—Army officer Col Philip Ingram said: “The MoD has a habit of rewarding failure.”

The MoD said: “These decisions were taken under the previous government.”
