Mickoski – Vucevic: We strongly support the joint path to the EU, it is necessary to work for the stability and security of the entire region --[Reported by Umva mag]

Skopje – We share much more than a common border. Many of the citizens of both countries share history, culture, family ties, and, most importantly, common aspirations for prosperity and peace for our peoples. We discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation, connect our people, and create opportunities for future generations coming, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski at a joint press conference with his Serbian counterpart Milos Vučević.

Mickoski said that they discussed the challenges facing the region and stressed that it is necessary “in these turbulent times, to be together, to be the voice of reason, and to work towards the stability and security of the entire region.”

– We emphasized the importance of dialogue as the only way to resolve disputes and misunderstandings. Regarding our European aspirations, we reaffirmed the common vision that the future of the region is the European Union. We know the path there is not easy, but we believe that with joint efforts and support, we can meet the criteria and bring the benefits of European integration to the citizens in the region, said Mickoski, adding that they also discussed energy connectivity between the two countries.

On his part, the Serbian Prime Minister highlighted that North Macedonia and Serbia have traditionally good relations and added that it is crucial for Serbia to build the interconnector and new supply route for natural gas through North Macedonia.

– We strongly support the joint path. Serbia believes in a common European future for the entire region. We give full support to North Macedonia on its European path. We consider that the EU should have long ago given North Macedonia the opportunity for its progress towards the Union, we want to say this publicly and believe in a joint European destiny or story for the entire region. This region deserves a chance and support from the entire European Union, said Vučević, who is on an official visit to the country. (October 7)
