Tesco change to trolleys affecting 90% of shoppers branded ‘awful’ online --[Reported by Umva mag]

Shoppers are fuming at Tesco, with a major change to the supermarket’s trolleys branded ‘nuts’ and ‘awful’ online.

If you use self-scanner machines in your local store, you may have noticed something different in the last few months — and your reaction likely depends on your dominant hand.

Essentially, the barcode scanner slot on your Tesco trolley is now placed on the left instead of the right of the cart, meaning it’s less convenient for the majority of people who are right-handed.

One customer, Bobby (@thebobsta14), said on X: ‘Tesco please put the handheld thing back on the right. Or at least make a mixture of trolleys available.

‘Years of it being on the right and 90% are right-handed and this change is just awfully impractical.’

He’s not the only one that’s annoyed either.

‘Tesco, can you tell me why all your shopping trolleys have the self scanning holder now on the left hand side?’ added Liam (@LJ1101234). ‘It drives me nuts, surely most people are right handed.’

A third, @George50P, chimed in: ‘I’m mad at Tesco because in our local supermarket they have changed the trolleys so that the self scan gun is on the left and it’s so awkward when you are right handed.’

But although others branded it ‘frustrating’, not everyone was upset about the change.

‘As a leftie, it helps!’ said X user Tom Bradey. ‘If only more supermarkets would do it,’ said X user Tom Bradey.’

Sarah G (@norfolkmum1) agreed writing: ‘I’m right handed but don’t mind the change. Hold the zapper in your left hand whilst picking the item to be zapped with your right. Job done.’

Meanwhile, @suecresswell01 urged righties to stop ‘making a song and dance out of everything’ and simply ‘stand to the left of the trolley when filling it.’

Commenting on the reaction, a spokesperson for Tesco told Metro: ‘Our new trolleys are designed to be practical for all customers. We value feedback and will pass this on to the relevant teams.’

The spokesperson also said that this specification of trolley is used by other retailers – aka they aren’t the only supermarket to do so.

This comes immediately after Tesco copped some heat for its ‘ridiculous’ new parking rules.

A customer raised the alarm on social media after spotting signs that have been put in their local Tesco car park, which state that those shopping between 6am and 8pm can stay for a maximum of three hours, but those visiting Tesco between 8pm and midnight can only park for one hour.

And if you wanted to use the Tesco car park between midnight and 6am, then you can only do so for 30 minutes. If you overstay your welcome, you could be slapped with a £70 fine.

The post has gone viral, being viewed more than one million times and garnering over 9,000 likes. Tesco told Metro that it wants all its customers to find a space when visiting their local branch, so parking time limits allow better management of spaces.
