Moroccan security chief receives British military adviser --[Reported by Umva mag]

Morocco’s Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Mr. Abellatif Hammouchi, Wednesday received Vice-Admiral Edward Ahlgren, British Senior Military Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), to discuss regional and international security challenges and threats.

The meeting took place at the DGST headquarters in Rabat in the presence of the British ambassador, Mr. Simon Martin, the Counter-Terrorism Police Liaison Officer at the British embassy in Rabat, military and security attachés, and senior officials from the various central services of the DGSN and DGST.

According to a press release issued by the Moroccan Pôle DGSN-DGST, the bilateral discussions provided an opportunity to review regional and international security challenges and threats, including the risks posed by illegal migration networks and their links to various forms of transnational organized crime.

The discussions also focused on promoting bilateral cooperation on major security events and possible forms of coordination to ensure the successful organization of global sports and security events, particularly in light of Morocco’s hosting of the 93rd session of the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in Marrakech in 2025, CAN 2025 and the World Cup in 2030, as well as UEFA EURO 2028 in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

In this context, the two parties expressed their firm desire to give greater impetus to this cooperation in order to strengthen the security and strategic partnership between the two countries.

In a press release, the British official praised the important role played by the Moroccan security services in strengthening regional and international security and their effective participation in international efforts to combat all security threats and challenges.

For his part, Mr. Hammouchi reiterated the DGSN-DGST Pole’s constant commitment to consolidate its security partnership with the competent British authorities and to develop and expand areas of bilateral security cooperation in the service of the security and interests of the two friendly countries.
