The Sony PlayStation 5 Slim (with a disc drive) is now available at a rare discount as part of Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days sale. This Prime Day PS5 deal matches the lowest price we've ever seen this model go for on Amazon.

The console is now available for $50 off, bringing its price down to $449. The last time we saw the PS5 Slim reduced to this price was in early August, and early June before that. Otherwise, the PS5 Slim is nearly always $499 on Amazon. This edition of the console includes a 4K Blu-ray drive so you can play physical discs.

Buyers who prefer a free game over a disc drive should check out Sony's PS5 Digital Editon bundle, which is also on sale for a $50 discount. This package includes the PS5 Slim Digital Edition console and a downloadable copy of NBA 2K25. But while this option includes a game, it doesn't have a 4K Blu-ray drive.

Both Prime Day PS5 deals are expected to remain active through October 9, but supplies are limited.

Should you buy a PS5 Slim with a disc drive or the Digital Edition without?

The only difference between the standard PS5 Slim and the PS5 Slim Digital Edition is the inclusion of a disc drive on the standard model. Otherwise, they offer identical performance.

The disc drive lets you play physical disc versions of games, which has a few benefits. For example, it lets you buy used game discs for less than new or digital editions. It also enables you to play existing collections of PS4 game discs, as well as Blu-ray movies. You can also still download games if you prefer.

With the Digital Edition, you can only download your games, which limits your game purchases to the pricing available from Sony's online store and doesn't give you access to used games for less.

However, the PS5 Slim Digital Edition does allow you to add an external disc drive after the fact if you decide to upgrade later.
