SLB to launch data centre in Angola to boost oil, gas efficiency --[Reported by Umva mag]

Global technology company SLB has announced plans to inaugurate its Integrated Performance Excellence (IPX) Centre in the Angolan capital Luanda in November.

The new facility aims to enhance production efficiency and reduce losses across the oil and gas sector in Angola.

The IPX Centre is designed to support the entire lifecycle of oil and gas projects in the country, focusing on maximising economic recovery from well-established fields while also elevating local skills and contributing to a balanced energy system.

“This centre will effectively handle and support local operators and clients in Luanda and the region,” SLB Europe and Africa production workflows business development manager Rajesh Trivedi said on Thursday.

He noted the centre’s role as a collaborative performance hub that would leverage technology to address local challenges.

SLB has maintained a presence in Angola for over 90 years, actively supporting both field development and exploration across the nation’s oil and gas basins.

The company recently launched the Lumi Platform, which integrates upstream and midstream applications with a seamless flow of data from AI models.

The platform offers a comprehensive lifecycle solution that enhances data management capabilities, empowering local operators to make data-driven decisions.

In addition to the new centre, SLB has developed an extensive dataset covering 40,000 square kilometres of Angola’s offshore Kwanza Basin.

By merging 11 existing datasets into a cohesive package, SLB has improved geological understanding and mitigated exploration risks ahead of Angola’s 2025 Bid Round, set to launch in the first quarter of 2025.

The enhanced data has already supported significant projects, including the Kaminho deepwater project where reprocessed data has enabled TotalEnergies to advance development plans.

Angola is actively pursuing strategies to boost national production, including intensified exploration and field development initiatives.

Later this year, the country is expected to launch its first-ever marginal fields for exploration and to introduce an incremental production programme to attract reinvestment in existing assets. SLB’s comprehensive dataset and the upcoming IPX Centre will play vital roles in supporting these objectives.

The AOG 2024 pre-conference, taking place today in Luanda, serves as a precursor to the main event scheduled for October 2-3. The pre-conference will feature a series of technical workshops and presentations covering various aspects of the oil and gas value chain in Angola.
