The environment is most important for Swedes in the EU election – stands out from the rest --[Reported by Umva mag]

Brussels – The environment and climate change were the most important issues for Swedish voters in the EU election – at least according to the survey conducted by the EU Parliament shortly after the election.

Of the Swedes surveyed, 37 percent cited the environment as the most important reason for their voting, followed by democracy and rule of law issues at 20 percent and the international situation at 15 percent. The same three topics were also at the top for the respondents’ second choices.

Thus, Swedes differ significantly from the EU average, which instead primarily cited increased living costs and the economic situation as the most important election issues.

However, Swedes were not alone in placing climate at the top. Danes, Dutch, and Maltese did the same.

The survey was conducted with just over 26,000 respondents across the EU between June 13 and July 8.
