Time travel may not yet be a thing, but if this iconic 00s supergroup has anything to do with it, their series of concerts next year may be the closest thing to it.

Performing in London last night as part of their 21st birthday celebrations, beloved 00s band McFly gave their fans the greatest gift of all and brought out some very special guests on stage.

James Bourne, 41, Charlie Simpson, 39, and Matt Willis, 41, also known as Busted, waltzed on stage and announced that they were reuniting with their fellow band members and past collaborators for the first time in almost a decade.

‘Right now here tonight, we challenge you to the ultimate face off, next year, 2025 Busted Vs McFly the tour. The Challenge is yours if you choose to accept it,’ Busted announced, according to MailOnline.

But what exactly do they mean by challenge? Here’s where the twist comes in.

The band continued to explain that the 14-date tour is to find out ‘who’s a better band’, and they’re leaving it up to the fans to make that tough decision.

‘The whole tour is to find out who’s a better band. Fans can decide. They can come and support their band and they might change their mind. It’s going to be a fight to the death,’ they said.

Taking the microphone, Matt continued to tell the crowd that their reunion has been ‘a long time coming’ and they know it’s something ‘fans have wanted’.

He joked: ‘There’s a massive crossover in the fanbases, but secretly, I think everyone likes Busted more.’

The band will join McFly, made up of Tom Fletcher, 39, Danny Jones, 38, Harry Judd, 38, and Dougie Poynter, 36, from September 16 next year, with their first show taking place in Birmingham.

Tickets for McBusted’s 2025 shows go on sale Friday, October 18.

The supergroup has a long history of collaborating after McFly toured as the support act for Busted in 2004, ultimately launching not only their friendships with the band but also McFly into stardom.

By 2013, as part of McFly’s 10th anniversary tour, Matt and James joined the band on stage as special guests for a couple of shows and later announced they would be forming a six-person group, which is now known as McBusted.

Charlie, who left Busted in 2005 and ultimately split up the group, did not participate in McBusted’s 11-date 2014 tour, which featured songs from both Busted and McFly’s catalogue. However, he did return to the Busted lineup in 2015.

While a supergroup, McBusted embarked on multiple tours and supported One Direction’s 2015 On The Road Again tour on both their Australian and European legs.

They announced the end of the supergroup in 2016, and both bands went on to tour separately. Despite their split, there appeared to be no hard feelings and they spoke highly of their time together in interviews.

In 2023, to mark the 20th anniversary of Busted, McFly joined them on the track Thunderbirds 2.0, making their first collaboration since the split and seemingly teasing what was to come.
