Joker sequel Folie à Deux has floundered in the box office and received a critical battering – but it has at least one huge fan in Manchester United legend Roy Keane.

While Metro has given Todd Phillips’ follow-up to the 2019 hit starring Joaquin Phoenix four stars, others haven’t been so kind.

Joker: Folie à Deux has been dubbed ‘the worst movie ever’ and an ‘insult’ to the original among its many scathing reviews.

Having been denounced as a box office flop, reportedly losing around $70million (53.5m) after a woeful opening weekend, the return of Gotham City’s Clown Prince of Crime has left a thoroughly negative impression on fans.

Former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland star Keane takes no prisoners in handing out perhaps the most brutal criticism in Premier League football, savaging the game’s biggest names on a weekly basis.

But the former midfielder has has given the film his five-star review.

Joker 2 was discussed by former Premier League stars Keane, Ian Wright, Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville ahead of filming for the latest episode of The Overlap.

Before focus switched to the football, Keane’s recent trip to the cinema was discussed.

‘Have you seen Joker yet?’ Keane asked the group. ‘The second one? Hey, it’s brilliant.’

Former Arsenal star Wight asked: ‘It’s not getting good reviews though is it?’

Sticking to his guns, Keane added, ‘I’m giving you the review!’ with Wright taking his pal’s recommendation on board. ‘I’m taking it off you, I can’t wait to see it, I never listen to the review.’

Keand continued: ‘Go and see it, it’s brilliant. Is it a musical? I wouldn’t go that far.’

Elsewhere, one of the biggest stories of Keane’s own career is getting the silver screen treatment.

‘Saipan’, directed by Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa, will cover the infamous row that dominated Ireland’s 2002 World Cup campaign.

Keane had an extremely public falling out with head coach Mick McCarthy, blasting the Irish management over the conditions of the camp, travel arrangements and match preparation, resulting in him leaving the camp.

Éanna Hardwicke will play Keane in the film with Steve Coogan playing Ireland boss McCarthy. The film is scheduled for release in the summer of 2025.
