The Prince and Princess of Wales have made their first public appearance together since Kate’s cancer treatment ended to meet with the victims of the Southport knife attack.

William and Kate Middleton have been spotted in the town more than three months after the attack at a Taylor Swift-themed summer dance class on July 29.

The unannounced trip to Merseyside was William and Kate’s first joint official outing since the princess’s course of chemotherapy cancer treatment ended in the summer.

The pair visited families of the victims involved in the incident before going to a nearby community centre.

Three children – Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Bebe King, six – died in the stabbings, which injured eight other kids and two adults.

The royal couple privately met with the families of the three girls who died, before walking to the Southport Community Centre where they joined emergency responders involved in the attack.

Following the visit, the couple wrote on their official @KensingtonRoyal X account along with a picture of them sitting around a table with the emergency workers: ‘We continue to stand with everyone in Southport. Meeting the community today has been a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting one another in the wake of unimaginable tragedy. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.’

At the time of the stabbings the prince and princess issued a statement on social media saying: ‘As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through.’

Prince William took his two eldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte to a Taylor Swift concert in June, one month before the attacks.

The incident in July was followed by rioting in Southport and across the country, which was denounced as ‘far-right thuggery’ by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Yoga teacher Leanne Lucas was hurt in the attack and branded a hero by her family after she tried to save the children.

Axel Rudakubana, 18, has been charged with the murders of three girls at the dance class and 10 counts of attempted murder. He is due to stand trial next year.

The surprise tour in Merseyside is Kate’s first visit after she announced her chemotherapy treatment is over last month.

She said her family have had to ‘find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.’

Kate wore a long brown coat and heels with her hair down and curled and looked serious as she spoke to the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside Peter Oliver who greeted the couple.

The prince and princess spent half an hour with each of the family groups and were 45 minutes late arriving, and William could be heard apologising to the waiting guests.

Kate was previously briefly seen in public after the cancer update on her way to Crathie Kirk Church in Balmoral alongside Prince WilliamKing Charles and Queen Camilla.

Earlier this month, she met aspiring photographer Liz Hatton, who has a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Kate was pictured hugging the 16-year-old after the princess and William met the teenager and her family at Windsor Castle.

Liz described being ‘over the moon’ after meeting the prince and princess at the castle.

In August King Charles also paid a visit to Southport to pay tribute to the three girls.

He later met with the three bereaved families in London.

The Royal Family’s official account on X posted at the time: ‘Remembering Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar. The King has been in Southport to express his continued support for those affected by the 29th July attack and the riots which followed.’

It is understood the engagement was planned as a solo visit for William but Kate decided to join her husband in order to show her support, empathy and compassion for the local community.

The princess has been slowly returning to a light programme of public duties following her announcement in a video four weeks ago her course of chemotherapy had ended and her focus would be ‘doing what I can to stay cancer free’.

Kate was pictured last week hugging aspiring photographer Liz Hatton, 16, who has a rare form of cancer, after the teenager was invited to Windsor Castle by William to take pictures during an investiture ceremony he hosted.
