Morocco: tourist arrivals reach 13.1m in September --[Reported by Umva mag]

Morocco’s tourism sector continues to attract global attention and aims to attract 26 million tourists by 2030. The kingdom recorded an increase of 2 million tourists in September compared to the same period in 2023.

Thirteen million arrivals in September. The Ministry of Tourism announced on Wednesday that this remarkable performance represents an increase of around two million tourists compared to the same period in 2023. These
figures also highlight Morocco’s growing appeal on the international tourism scene.

The month of September was particularly notable with 1.3 million tourists visiting the country, an increase of 33 per cent compared to September 2023. The number of foreign tourists also increased by 40 per cent during this month.

The Minister of Tourism, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, welcomed this momentum, describing it as “undeniable”. “Our country is shining more and more on the international scene.

“Our targeted efforts, aligned with our roadmap, are bearing fruit,” she said. She added that the significant increase in air connections, promotional campaigns, as well as the development of modern infrastructure and attractive tourist experiences have contributed to this development.

This strategy contributes to this exceptional dynamism, said Ms.Ammor, concluding: “This new record of tourist arrivals fills us with pride and strengthens our determination to achieve our ambitious goal of 26 million visitors by 2030.”

The Moroccan government and the National Tourism Office (ONMT) are stepping up their efforts to boost local tourism, seeking to attract national and international visitors to the country’s cultural heritage. Earlier this week, the ONMT announced the launch of a new communication campaign entitled “Ntla9awfbladna” – which means “Let’s meet in our country” – to encourage domestic tourists to discover Morocco’s tourist destinations.

“The launch of this campaign coincides with the school holidays to encourage travel during this period, while highlighting the importance of using common means of transport when traveling,” the press statement said.
