LOCAL businesses across Perth and Kinross stand to benefit economically from the proposed Craighead Wind Farm, as the formal supplier registration opens for interested companies.

Galileo, the renewable energy developer behind the project, has initiated a straightforward process for local suppliers and contractors to register interest.

This opportunity arises as the eight-turbine wind farm, located north of Carnbo in Kinross-shire, is set to deliver significant commercial benefits, should it receive approval.

The wind farm is projected to have an operational life of 40 years and could generate a capacity of up to 49.6MW.

Analysis suggests the wind farm will cost up to £65.4m to construct.

Economic predictions further indicate that £9.1m is likely to be spent in the local economy across the construction and operational phases.

Additionally, up to 66 jobs are expected to be created within Perth and Kinross, alongside an estimated £24m in business rates over the wind farm’s lifetime.

Jason Morin, Senior Project Manager at Galileo, commented on the launch of the supplier registration portal: “Through our continuing engagement with local communities on this project, we have made it clear that we are keen to ensure that we use local businesses and contractors in all aspects of wind farm development.

“Hence the opening of this portal to ensure that they can benefit.”

Galileo has partnered with Perthshire Chamber of Commerce to ensure awareness of the portal and to support local businesses in accessing opportunities within the supply chain.

Speaking on behalf of the Chamber, Chief Executive Vicki Unite stated: “We are incredibly supportive of the opening of the portal, which will allow local businesses the opportunity to register interest and ensure they don’t miss out on any opportunities.

“Renewable energy developments such as this have the potential to deliver considerable investment, creating local jobs, boosting the skills of our current and future workforce, and delivering sustainable economic growth.”

The planning application for Craighead Wind Farm was submitted to Perth and Kinross Council in August 2024.
