There have been some pretty interesting brand collabs happening of late — from Oreo-flavoured Coca-Cola to Monster Munch Heinz Mayo, and now there’s another unexpected pairing to add to the list, as Nando’s just announced its latest spice on the PERi-PERi-ometer.

The iconic chicken chain has teamed up with an iconic fizzy drink for the guest spice flavour and even they admit it’s a ‘weird’ one.

Nando’s new flavour is Fanta Orange Zero and it’s launching just in time for spooky season. According to the chain it has a ‘tangy orange taste with a hint of PERi-PERi’ and is ‘unlike anything you’ve ever seen on the PERi-omiter before’.

Nando’s x Fanta ranks between mild and medium on the scale and can be a fruity addition to your go-to order. Alternatively, you can order five Nando’s x Fanta Wings (£7.25 on its own).

The news was announced on the Nando’s Instagram account and fans aren’t too sure what to make of the spice. Some were quick to brand it ‘grim’ but others were tempted to give it a go.

@jodieonline wrote: ‘Omg urm I’m not sure but I’m willing to try it lmao.’ While @diizeh_ simply said: ‘Nah bro.’

@vespertineowl replied: ‘Hmm, not sure how I feel about this. Why can’t we just have the mango and lime permanently back?’

And @ethanwatkin thought it sounded ‘griiimmmm’. @c.finnnn had the same opinion, but was open to trying it.

Not everyone was opposed, as @meganmachine was left drooling over the idea of orange chicken, and @barnes1991 proclaimed: ‘YESSSSSS FANTA LIGHT PLS BREV!!!’

For those that aren’t so sure about it, there’s good news, as it’s not the only new item on the menu, so there’s more you can try.

The chain is also launching a new starter, the Cheesy Garlic Pitta (£4.75), which is inspired by a hack from Nando’s employees. It features a toasted sourdough pitta filled with melty cheddar cheese, garlic, spring onions and a hint of PERi-PERi, and is served with red pepper chutney on the side.

The main menu is also getting a new addition in the form of a Cheesy Chickle Burger (£9.25 on its own). For this grilled chicken breast is covered with melted cheddar cheese, PERi-Ketchup, Garlic PERinaise, lettuce and TikTok’s favourite fermented snack – herby pickles. All this is served in a new, soft Portuguese roll.

There’s also an All-in Platter for two (£33.75) and Churrasco PERinaise dip pot (£1).

Nando’s new menu launches on October 15 and will be available at all restaurants across the UK and Ireland.

A number of other popular UK fast food chains have been making big menu changes of late as well.

McDonald’s recently announced a new £5 meal deal that will rival your supermarket sandwich and crisps.

As part of the deal, you can choose between either a Cheeseburger or Mayo Chicken, and then you also get Medium Fries, a Medium Carbonated Soft Drink, and a side of four Chicken McNuggets for the set price.

Maccies also confirmed the beloved McRib is returning to the menu from October 16, and new mini Hash Browns will be joining the line-up on the same day.

And US chain Wendy’s has launched a new autumnal menu in the UK, with a burger inspired by French Onion soup.

The French Onion Cheeseburger (from £5.99) features a juicy quarter-pounder patty made with British and Irish beef, caramelised onions, two slices of cheese, and a creamy savoury mayo.  The whole thing is topped with crunchy fried onions for extra flavour and served in a toasted brioche-style bun.

Also joining the current line-up is a twist on the chain’s iconic Frosty, which is somewhere between an ice cream and a milkshake. The new version is a Frozen Hot Chocolate Frosty (£3.49) and comes in either vanilla or chocolate varities.

And last but not least, there’s a change being made to the breakfast menu, with an Egg Double Stack being introduced during breakfast hours from £2.99.
