Netflix viewers have slammed The Platform 2 as the ‘stupidest movie’ that has ruined the legacy left by the popular first film.

The Platform was a smash hit when it was released a few years ago, and fans were enthralled when this Spanish thriller made its way to Netflix.

The premise of the 2019 film was about a prison made up of several layers with a platform filled with food that travels from the first layer of the prison to the bottom floor.

The dystopian film dealt with the concepts of greed, wealth distribution, and several other moral dilemmas and was praised by critics who loved this thought-provoking watch.

When a sequel was announced fans were delighted and captivated by the chilling trailer that made some fans feel ‘physically ill’.

However, the second film was released on October 4 and sadly fans were left less than impressed.

Up Next

Although the trailer set expectations high for a gruesome thriller, the film was panned as lacklustre, and rather than developing the storyline from the first film, the narrative relied on shock value.

On Reddit one fan, Saltwater_Heart,posted: ‘I have been really looking forward to it. I rewatched the first one today and then immediately the 2nd one. Loved the first, even more confused after the second one. We didn’t really get any answers. I was unfortunately disappointed.’

Another fan, Esnwst145, commented: ‘I was really looking forward to it with the expectation to learn more about the platform itself. What I got was 1h40m of slaughter with characters I don’t care about. Wtf was that? I‘m happy for everyone who had fun with this, for me it was a terrible movie.’

Unfortunately for Netflix, fans on X weren’t much more pleased, with many reaching the consensus that the film was ‘unnecessary’ and ‘felt like a repeat’ of the first film.

On Rotten Tomatoes critics were very divided as the piece received a 50% rating, splitting reviewers totally down the middle. The audience score also savaged the film with a 26% score rating.

The Platform 2 isn’t the only recent release to get a brutal review from fans. Megalopolis was called the ‘worst film ever’ by Metro‘s reporter Tori Brazier.

It was also anticipated to be the biggest box office disaster in recent years with a $115,000,000 loss.

Similarly, Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker sequel was slammed by critics. The film lost $70,000,000 at the box office and scraped a 31% rating with audiences on the Popcornmeter from over 2,500 fan reviews – suggesting it is pretty rotten.
