Lonely Planet is Netflix’s latest romantic comedy film that has soared to the top of the streaming platform – but a lot of fans are seriously unimpressed.

Netflix has released some fabulous romantic comedies lately, with the series Nobody Wants This being praised by fans and picked up for a second season.

The platform was also praised for the film Find Me Falling which was watched 30,500,000 times, but sadly their latest movie film has fallen flat.

Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern lead Netflix’s latest romantic comedy as Katherine Loewe and Owen Brophy, an unlikely couple who fall in love on a writer’s retreat.

The film was released on October 11 and quickly shot to the top 10 most-watched films in the UK as fans were excited to jump into this brand-new romantic comedy.

Despite the all-star leads in the cast, fans were rather unimpressed with the new film and took to X to complain about the series, labelling it ‘drowsy’.

‘Not only was Liam Hemsworth & Laura Dern’s chemistry unconvincing, forced & awkward, LONELY PLANET has got to be the most insignificant, inconsequential romantic drama that Netflix assembly line had ever produced; featuring the shallowest epiphany ever written. #LonelyPlanet,’ RamasScreen commented on X.

‘Lonely Planet fell so spectacularly flat, like there wasn’t a single moment throughout the movie that I felt anything.

‘Such painful waste of a stunning cast, my goodness. I powered through cos both lead actors are so damn good looking but f**k, couldn’t they have said no??’ Zioraife commented.

‘I watched the movie Lonely Planet on Netflix last night and my God! I’ve not watched a bad movie in a long time I forgot how bad movies can get. From the acting, the dialogue, the storyline and Liam Hemsworth’s stupid run. Omds it’s horrible! How were they allowed to make this?’ said Nefertittie_.

‘Watched Lonely Planet ’cause I love Laura Dern, but it wasn’t great. Slow-moving, little chemistry between the leads. The best way to describe it is drowsy,’ ChocoWino commented.

Some fans were more positive about the show, complimenting the portrayal of the age-gap relationship and the ‘happy ending’, but the consensus online was overwhelmingly negative.

This isn’t the only film from Netflix to fall flat as viewers slammed popular sequel Platform 2 as the ‘stupidest movie’ of the year.

That said, the platform has had some incredible surprise hits in recent months, with homegrown films and ones they have acquired for the platform.

Joyride starring Olivia Colman was a smash as fans were left ‘sobbing’ after the ‘silly little comedy’ turned out to be a hidden gem.

Similarly, the action movie Rebel Ridge was a smash-hit thriller that was watched over 31,000,000 times in the first three days it landed on the platform.
