Stephen Graham has confirmed he’s been cast in Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders movie.

The British period crime drama created by Steven Knight was set in Birmingham and followed the exploits of the Peaky Blinders crime gang in the direct aftermath of the First World War.

Featuring an ensemble cast led by Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, it ran for six seasons, first airing in 2013 before wrapping up in 2022.

After much speculation, it was confirmed earlier this year the series was getting a big screen adaptation.

Set a few years after the end of the last season, it began filming last month in Liverpool.

Details have been kept closely under wraps; however, Stephen has now revealed he’s set to reprise his role.

The Line of Duty star, 51, played Hayden Stagg in the sixth and final season. His character was a union convenor who was stealing of opium in storage at the Salthouse docks in Liverpool.

Now the actor has said working on the movie is his next project lined up.

He told Deadline at the London Film Festival this week that he was ‘looking forward to seeing the lads again’ on the set of the Peaky movie.

However, he didn’t elaborate any further about what storyline was ahead for his character.

Some other cast members have been officially confirmed in recent weeks, with photos released showing Cillian back in character last month.

Meanwhile the movie will also feature Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan.

The show’s creator Steven also recently talked up the ‘mind-blowing’ cast during the RTS London Convention, noting that the film is ‘set in the Second World War and it’s really good’.

Speaking to GQ in 2022, Stephen spoke about joining the beloved series in its final season.

‘I’ve been exceptionally blessed to have people writing stuff for me, including Steve. I was a huge fan of Peaky Blinders – Tommy Shelby is one of the finest characters I’ve ever seen on television,’ he said.

‘When I met Cillian, I’ll be honest, I had a flutter. It was the eyes, I was lost in his eyes!’ he added.

The actor also recently teamed up with Steven on the upcoming Disney Plus series A Thousand Blows.

The six-part Disney Plus series is ‘set in the perilous world of illegal boxing in 1880s Victorian London’ and stars Malachi Kirby as Hezekiah Moscow, who finds himself thrust into the vibrant and violent melting pot of post-industrial revolution London’s East End from Jamaica.

As Hezekiah sharpens his new skills, he comes up against Sugar Goodson, played by Stephen, a seasoned and dangerous boxer and the two are soon locked into an intense rivalry that spills out way beyond the ring.

Peaky Blinders is streaming on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
