Today marks the 30-year anniversary of one of the most iconic, star-studded and influential films of all time – and the cast has barely aged a day in that time.

Pulp Fiction was released on October 14, 1994, with Uma Thurman, Samuel L Jackson, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Christopher Walken and Tim Roth lighting up the screen in director Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece.

The dark, violent and ridiculously quotable movie charts a series of incidents that intertwine the lives of two Los Angeles hitmen, a gangster’s wife, a boxer and two small-time criminals.

It received seven Oscar nominations in total, with the filmmaker taking home the trophy for best original screenplay, while Uma, John and Samuel earning acting nods – the latter previously insisted that he ‘should’ve won’ the best supporting actor trophy, after losing out to Martin Landau for Ed Wood.

Despite commanding one of the most packed casts in cinema history, Quentin previously shared that he actually dismissed another huge name from the original line-up.

He shared that Johnny Depp was in the running for Pumpkin, despite the part being specifically written for Tim Roth.

During an appearance on the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast, he explained: ‘On the internet there’s a thing floating around about my wish list of the cast of Pulp Fiction.

‘I didn’t know exactly who I wanted to play this part or that part, so I wrote a giant list with a ton of names.

‘I wanted to get them all pre-approved and I didn’t know if it was going to work out or if I would vibe with the person or if they would even do a good job. I just wanted to get them approved.’

The Django Unchained director argued having the Pirates of the Caribbean actor play Pumpkin wouldn’t add ‘much to box office’ and refused to budge on his top two preferences for the iconic character in the form of Tim and Christian Slater.

He said that he would be happy for Johnny to come on board in the event of Tim and Christian both stepping back.

Detailing the conversation with studio bosses, he told them: ‘Do you think Johnny Depp playing the role of Pumpkin in this movie, which is the opening scene and the closing scene that’s it, do you think that will add that much to the box office? Him playing that role?

‘Mike said, “It wont add a dime but it would make me feel better”’.

Earlier this year, the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Classic Film Festival to celebrated Pulp Fiction ahead of the milestone day.

Quentin was celebrated at the event and key members of the cast and crew, gathered to pay tribute to the movie.

However, Bruce – who starred as washed-up boxer and prizefighter Butch Coolidge – was noticeably absent from the event.

The actor retired in recent years after suffering from frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.

Instead, his wife, Emma Hemming Willis, and his daughter Tallulah, attended on his behalf.

The reunion sent many into meltdown as fans commented that the stars looked just like a ‘family’ as they warmly hugged and kissed each other on the cheeks during the bash.

Although Pulp Fiction premiered three decades ago, they were still instantly recognizable as their characters.
