Berlin – Slovenia has continuously supported the Berlin Process in recent years and will continue to advocate regional cooperation and ties between the Western Balkans and the European Union, said Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon after Tuesday’s meeting on the 10th anniversary of the Berlin Process. Fajon highlighted Slovenia’s contribution to the process.

At the meeting, she emphasized that the Berlin Process has played an important role in promoting regional cooperation, connectivity, and stability throughout the Western Balkans over the last decade.

“But it is crucial that we look forward, so I sincerely wish that we witness positive steps this month. On one hand, regarding concrete achievements within the Berlin Process, such as the removal of the blockade in the functioning of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), gradual integration into the common market, and the establishment of the Cyber Capacity Center in the Western Balkans – a Slovenian initiative we are particularly proud of,” said Fajon.

“Slovenia has been actively supporting this initiative in recent years and will continue to strongly advocate further regional cooperation, sustainable development, and a future where Western Balkan countries are fully integrated into the EU,” the minister said about Slovenia’s contribution to the process.

The aim of the process, which involves Western Balkan countries, several EU member states, as well as the United Kingdom, is to bring the Western Balkans closer to the EU through concrete connectivity projects and thus accelerate the enlargement process. (1 October)
