Beloved WWE superstar Jey Uso still hasn’t got over the infamous ‘Ucey’ segment on SmackDown but it remains a career highlight.

The new Intercontinental Champion, who is set to defend the gold after inviting Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher to WWE’s show at Manchester’s Co-Op Live arena on Wednesday, has taken the time to reflect on his wrestling journey over the last 14 years.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, he chucked: ‘The Ucey segment, it’s probably one of the dopest, fun and coolest segments on TV, but it was also the most embarrassing for me, because I was just stuck laughing on TV.’

In late 2022, he totally broke character and burst out laughing when Sami Zayn said he wasn’t feeling ‘very Ucey’ in a segment involving his brothers Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, and their straight-talking cousin Roman Reigns.

The Tribal Chief even made matters worse, making sure Jey was standing front and centre with everyone watching.

‘There was a couple of times I just had to turn away from the camera, like I had to because I just had a big smile, man,’ he laughed. ‘If you really look at it, Roman was trying to poke at me, to crack me more.’

He added that it was probably one of the best moments in WWE, with fans taken on a real rollercoaster.

‘If you look at that segment, me and Sami Zayn had a promo before that, which probably could have been its own segment, and then it evolved,’ he recalled.

‘It went from being so heavy to being light. And we gave everyone, like, every feeling in that segment. It was just the best! I don’t think that’ll ever, ever, ever, ever be replicated again.’

WWE Live in Manchester

Tickets for WWE Live at Manchester’s new Co-Op Live arena on Wednesday, October 16 are available now from Ticketmaser.co.uk.

After the hilarious incident, Jey found himself ‘laughing every week’, even when he tried to keep it under control for the good of the programme.

‘I started to think to myself, I’m professional, you know? I need to chill out,’ he said. ‘But, man, it was so hard to keep a straight face with him and my brothers.’

He admitted that period with Sami and The Bloodline was ‘probably one of the best times of his wrestling career’, as his rival turned ally became an integral part of his growth as a performer.

‘Sami definitely helped my character,’ he explained ‘I know we hated each other on screen, but we really love each other in the back, but it just came off on TV so organically.’

While there have been hints of them still being on the same page, Jey doesn’t think the door has closed on a ‘full blown’ run by each other’s side, when the time is right.

‘I want to work with him,’ he added. ‘now I want to you will have little glimpse of me and him on raw but ‘Man, I really want to go, like, full blown tag team with him and try to see how that goes.’
