Despite launching in the spooky season, Sony’s Until Dawn remake has failed to make any sort of impact across PC and PS5.

Sony’s commitment to unnecessary remakes and remasters has accelerated in recent years, between The Last Of Us and Horizon Zero Dawn, but even in light of this strategy, a remake of Until Dawn felt particularly pointless.

Like The Last Of Us Part 1, the push for a shiny new version of Until Dawn has seemingly been driven by the upcoming film adaptation. As noted in our review, however, this remake is riddled with performance issues and bizarre changes from the PlayStation 4 original (which can still be played on PlayStation 5).

While the original Until Dawn was a surprise hit back in 2015, the remake has failed to gain any sort of traction on both PlayStation 5 and PC, following its launch last week.

According to TrueTrophies, which has pulled a data sample from over 3.1 million active PlayStation Network accounts with GameInsights, Until Dawn’s debut on PlayStation 5 has seen 28.6% fewer players than Concord – one of the biggest flops in PlayStation history.

On the PC side, Until Dawn hasn’t made a splash either. On SteamDB, the remake has hit a concurrent player peak of 2,607, which isn’t much higher than Concord’s all-time peak of 697 players.

For comparison, the recent PC port of God Of War Ragnarök achieved an all-time peak of 35,615 players, while Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut hit 77,154.

While there’s no exact numbers on the PlayStation 5 player count, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the remake isn’t selling well on the platform considering you can buy the PlayStation 4 version, which unlike the remake runs at 60fps, at a significantly cheaper price. If you’re on PC, however, the remake is the only version you can buy.

Until Dawn’s numbers might receive a bump as we approach Halloween, and the upcoming movie adaptation next year, but these early figures will not exactly be encouraging for Sony, considering the amount of effort invested into the remake.

As for Concord, which was shut down after only two weeks due to a lack of players, it’s still unclear whether Sony plans to re-launch it at a later date. The game’s SteamDB page has received several backend updates over the past 24 hours though – leading some to speculate that a return could be on the cards.

While it’s unclear what these updates are, a report last month cast doubt on Concord ever making a comeback – with the game’s director stepping down and fears of layoffs at developer Firewalk Studios.

If Sony is planning to relaunch Concord though, possibly in a free-to-play capacity, it might be timed around the launch of Amazon TV show Secret Level in December, which features an episode based on Concord’s characters.
