BRITS have been left baffled after apples promoting MP Kemi Badenoch were spotted at the Conservative Party conference.

Journalist Marie Le Conte was at the conference in Birmingham on Tuesday when she came across the bizarre merchandise.

The apples, stickered with just the Tory Shadow Secretary’s first name, appeared to be part of a bag of promotional material for Badenoch’s party leadership campaign, which was displayed on her stand.

The somewhat strange addition has sparked discussion on social media – with some pointing out that the 44-year-old’s name is plastered on something that is famously removed almost immediately.

Marie shared a snap of the bag and some of its contents, which included leaflets, stickers and a lanyard.

However, looking very out of place amongst the selection of items are five green apples, each labelled with a grey sticker reading “Kemi”.

The fruit had reportedly been spotted on the stand earlier in the conference but had run out and been replenished.

The image was shared to social media on Tuesday with the caption: “Might be that it’s the end of conference season but I’ve fully lost it at whoever on team Kemi decided to slap some stickers on apples and go ‘yeah, job done’.”

It has since received over 1,300 likes and more than 40 comments from Brits keen to share their reactions.

One wrote: “You’d think somebody would at least have thought of the conference/pear angle when choosing the fruit.”

A second said: “Sour tasting apples at that. Just like her personality.”

Another commented: “Ah yes, stickers on apples, something that is famously not removed and thrown away immediately.”

A fourth added: “I think the marketing team just gave up. I know how they feel, it’s been a long hard year for marketeers again.”

Another quipped: “McDonald’s fries didn’t make the cut.”
